Will Demanosow is one of Queensboro’s many customers that operate a small business—in his case “The Best Legs in Town.” Will’s logo, with a dancing turkey wearing fishnet hose won Queensboro’s September “We Love Your Logo” contest by a landslide. I had to get the story behind the dancing turkey.
Will and his business partner travel the fall festival circuit of Connecticut serving up delectable smoked turkey legs to hungry fair goers. You know—the giant arm-sized turkey legs that you see people eating at Disney’s Magic Kingdom and Epcot? Well, Will and his family were vacationing at Disney World about thirteen years ago, and he ate one of those turkey legs. He pronounced it “pretty good,” but said he told his wife and daughter he thought he could do better. Will is quite the grill master, and had been a meat smoking hobbyist before launching his turkey leg enterprise as a business venture.
Tiny Dancer
When Will started “The Best Legs in Town,” he needed a logo. His daughter, 11 years old at the time, was smack in the middle of a serious dancing hobby. They knew they wanted a turkey to be part of the logo. It was Will’s daughter who told him he should put a lady’s dancing legs on the turkey. She told him, solemnly, “The turkey needs to be wearing fishnet hose.” A star was born!

Tons of Legs
Will’s business has come a long way in thirteen years. His daughter is now in college, studying to be a nurse. Will is so busy that he can no longer smoke all of the turkey legs himself, but has help from a commercial meat smoker that uses his secret sauce recipe and methods he has perfected over the years. “In the last thirteen years, we’ve gone from selling hundreds of legs to selling, literally, tons of legs.” He found Queensboro by searching the internet after less than successful experiences with other shirt makers. His operation is still pretty small—he hires just a few helpers to get through the fall fair season, so he appreciates Queensboro’s low minimum order quantities. Queensboro’s free embroidery is also a welcome perk!
The Back Story
We talk a lot on this blog about what your logo says about you and your business. We offer tips for logos that will open the door for conversation, and pique the interest of potential customers. One of our Customer Service Representatives, Jennifer (read the blog post to find out which Jennifer), likes to imagine stories about the thousands of logos we embroider each week. Will’s “Best Legs in Town” logo passed the logo test with flying colors. It was interesting, unusual, and has a great back story. You can’t look at the logo without asking “What DO you do?” A great opening to talk up the business!
